The Good Shirt

The Good Shirts is a summer T-shirt that fits wonderfully. It features a memorable, repeating motif that adds a touch of elegance to the garment. The dart in the shoulder area also adjusts the armhole to enhance the shape and ensure the shirt fits perfectly around the bust.

You’ll cast on stitches for the back neckline and shape the shoulders by increasing on both sides of the work (RS & WS). Once you’ve reached the desired shoulder width, continue working “The Good” stitch along the armhole and work a few more increases to shape under the arm. You’ll put these stitches on hold to work the front pieces.

Pick up stitches along the shoulder line and begin working the front piece using “The Good” Stitch. Work increases to shape the neckline and work as follows for shaping the armhole: once you’ve worked the shoulder area, make a few dart-like decreases so the garment fits better, doesn’t bunch up, and emphasizes the shape of the shoulder. Then, repeat the increases you worked on the back piece to shape under the arm. Work the same on both front pieces and, once you’ve worked them completely, join them together to finally finish the neck shape.

Join the front and back pieces, adding stitches under the armhole and working “The Good” stitch in the round until you reach the desired length minus 3 cm. Work the bottom of the bodice with a twisted rib and cast off all stitches without tightening them too much.

Finish the armholes and the neckline by picking up stitches in CC and then bind them off with an i-cord cast-off.
